Art at the Barn

Several weeks ago I did a show at one of the largest sheep farms in Alabama just north of Ft Payne. Art at the Barn was a fantastic art show on a gorgeous setting complete with sheep and lambs and giant cows who kept coming up to the back of our tents. (We set up just on the other side of one of their pasture fences and apparently they wanted to know what in the world we were doing there.) I couldn’t resist getting some shots of these creatures (and my good friend Susie who couldn’t get enough of the adorable little lambs).

Buster & Sunny

What a fun pair these two BFFs were! We had a great session on a lovely evening several weeks ago – Buster & Sunny did such a great job and seemed well versed in working the camera. I love that these two very different breeds are best buds (Buster is the Bassett and Sunny is the Bischon) – it was so fun to see their different personalities come out in their photos. I think Sunny actually smiled at me a few times…

Gorgeousness

It’s hard to believe how gorgeous some dogs are. I had to pinch myself that I was fortunate enough to have a session with the beautiful Natasha and her pack. She was sleek, muscular and graceful – and the location couldn’t have been more perfect. These Dobermans are a such lovely breed.

Oh, and if you happen to drive by the Kessler Building in downtown Birmingham, check out the giant canvas of Boris in the front window.

He’s quite the star as well.

We Made the News

For the past 6 weeks, Millie and I participated in a No More Bullies class with Hand in Paw. We all learned so much from this awesome class. Last night was our last session and CBS 42 was there (and they got a really cute closeup of my Millie the little black Shih Tzu on the floor).

George the Doberman was very regal during our session and I absolutely adored that she crossed her paws whenever she sat – so dainty and so very proper! Well done, George. (And so fun that we had a wardrobe change during our shoot – I think I like the pink best although the leather does match her beautiful markings…)

Mason

There are dogs, and then there is Mason. Rescued from a shelter at 13 weeks, Mason developed into a stunningly gorgeous dog along with the perfect temperament and character. I particularly love to have sessions with these dogs who for whatever reason, were slated to be cast aside yet as fate would have it, end up having their own portrait session. Mason was no exception and seemed to take it in stride that a photo shoot is what he was slated to do after all. What a pro.

Chili Dawgs

The Exceptional Foundation’s Chili Cookoff signals the true start of spring for me (and apparently for over 6,000 others as well!). We live right by Homewood Park and get so excited when hear the all-night preparations of setting up the tents and the early morning waft of homemade chili.

But what is most fun for me is meeting and photographing the dogs at the Chili Cookoff. I see all shapes and sizes, some loving the socialization and others wound up over the incredible smells, random plops of found spilled chili, and mass sea of legs that they see from their vantage point.

It’s such a fun day and a great way to signal that spring is here.
